Plant care: Orchid 'Chysis bractescens'

Chysis bractescens doesn't need much attention and is often kept on the windowsill. Be sure to keep it out of bright sunlight though, as it can dry out the plant. The temperature should be around 22⁰C, dropping 6⁰C at night. Water Chysis bractescens three to five times a week with rainwater or distilled water. During winter this should be less, but don't let the thick stem dry out. A humidity around 70% would be ideal, but this orchid also tolerates less. Always keep a good airflow around the plant to prevent infections and disease. Chysis bractescens can be attached to a piece of bark, but can also be kept in a pot with orchid-mix. Make sure water is able to drain from it to prevent rot and disease. Orchid-mix and other components can be found in our ‘Plant Accessories’ section. You can fertilize this plant, but do it with caution. Old flowers can be cut from the orchid.
