Angraecum didieri was discovered by naturalist A. Grandidier in Madagascar and described by Finet early in the 20th century. It occurs naturally in the wet tropical forests of the island at altitudes of 600-1500m. Plants have thick silvery roots, and tough 2-7 cm long grey-green leaves on short stems. Flower stems have one white, star-shaped, fragrant flower with a wide lip, 5-7 cm in diameter with an 8-15 cm long spur. Angraecum didieri is perfectly suited to terrarium culture, where it can shine with little care provided it watered when it dries. This orchid is also adaptable to pot culture in coarse bark. See for additional information about this special orchid Angraecum didieri the Araflora symbols on this page.
Angraecum didieri occurs naturally in wet biome forests of Madagascar, at elevations of 600-1500 m. It is an orchid that likes warm conditions all year, around 21-25 C at day and 18-20 C at night. Grow in bright shade without any direct sunlight, though in winter more intense light can be tolerated, even one-two hours of direct sun. This orchid prefers drier than usual conditions and grows better when watered when it is dry. Angraecum didieri can grow easily mounted on a cork in a terrarium where it can be neglected, and where the thick, silvery roots will provide an extra focus point. Pots filled with coarse sized bark can be also used since this is an adaptable orchid. Fertilizing every 15 days with a high nitrogen water soluble fertilizer diluted in half the normal concentration during the growing season (mainly mid-spring and summer) is highly beneficial. The Araflora plantcare symbols below will give you an indication about orchids care of the Angraecum didieri.
