Anathallis anfracta, formerly known as is a unique orchid from Colombia, specifically from the Tolima region. This orchid is known for its compact size and striking winter bloom, with flowers that are almost black-purple and have a diameter of approximately 0.4 cm. Anathallis anfracta belongs to the Orchidaceae family, Epidendroideae subfamily, Epidendreae tribe and Pleurothallidinae subtribe. The orchid Anathallis anfracta (formerly known as Pleurothallis anfracta) grows naturally as a terrestrial plant, but can also occur as an epiphyte in the humid tropical forests of Tolima, at altitudes of 1,500 to 1,850 metres. Its natural environment is cool and humid, which means that Anathallis anfracta is accustomed to constant humidity and milder temperatures. Its almost black flowers and flexible inflorescence make this orchid unique and highly sought after by lovers of rare species. Anathallis anfracta (formerly known as Pleurothallis anfracta) thrives best in a spot with shade to partial shade, where it can benefit from extra light in winter. This orchid grows best year-round at daytime temperatures between 18 and 25°C, while nights may be slightly cooler to mimic a natural growth cycle. During the active growth period, Anathallis anfracta should be kept well moist, without the substrate becoming waterlogged, while during the dormant period, watering can be more moderate. During the growth period, this orchid can be fertilised every fortnight with suitable orchid fertiliser, but no fertiliser should be given during the winter dormant period.
