Plant information: Orchid 'Aerangis ellisii'

Aerangis ellisii was introduced to Europe from the nursery of B. S. Williams in 1870. It is an epiphytic or occasionally lithophytic orchid that occurs in forests or open shrub at altitudes of 300-2000 m in Madagascar. Plants have long aerial roots and short stems with 4-20, thick, green leaves (sometimes with orange edges) which are 7-25 cm long and up to 6 cm wide. Flower stems  can be upright (though usually arching), and carry 6-20 star shaped white (sometimes with a green or pink-brown tinge), fragrant flowers with a diameter of about 6 cm. Flowering occurs winter to spring. Aerangis ellisii is a robust orchid best suited mounted in large terraria or pot culture where it can reward with its looks. Plant care: Orchid 'Aerangis ellisii'

Aerangis ellisii grows naturally as an epiphyte or among rocks in medium to high altitudes which makes it adaptable. Medium warm temperatures around 20-25 °C at daytime and 15-20 °C at night are required. It should dry completely between waterings. Aerangis ellisii is best grown in moderate bright conditions without direct sunlight. It is suitable for a larger terrarium where it can be mounted and where the long roots present beautifully, as long as it is given space for its usually upright flowering stems. This orchid is also suitable for pot or basket culture using coarse sized bark mixture.  Fertilizing every 15 days with a high nitrogen water soluble fertilizer diluted in half the normal concentration during the growing season (mainly mid-spring and summer) is highly beneficial. The plantcare symbols below will give you additional information about the care for Aerangis ellisii.
