Alocasia cuprea orignates in countries such as Borneo and Malaysia in South-East Asia. The Latin addition 'Cuprea' means 'Copper red', which refers to the underside of the leaf. Very characteristic for this Alocasia is that its leaves are conjoined as lobes. A leaf can grow up to 35 centimeters; it is leathery to the touch and has a silver-white gloss.
Alocasia cuprea is a house plant which can be placed outside in summer. Use airy soil and keep it well-moistened. The plant is easily pleased, but its ideal temperatures are between 16 and 22 degrees Celsius. Temperatures between down to 10 and up to 30 degrees Celsius are still acceptable for this plant. Pick a bright or partially shaded spot. Too much light makes the leaves turn yellow.
