Microsorum siamensis (syn. Microsorum siamense) was officially described in 2009 and is therefore still relatively unknown in cultivation. This fern originates from the extreme south of Thailand, where it grows on rock walls and in limestone crevices. Microsorum siamensis has thinner and broader leaves than its relative Microsorum thailandicum, but displays an even more intense blue iridescent sheen. In nature, this fern thrives in high humidity and warm temperatures, making it particularly suitable for terrariums and vivariums. New species, discovered in karst limestone in the extreme south of Thailand, published in 2009. Under suitable conditions, the plant has glossy, pointed leaves with a beautiful metallic blue color. It is a compact grower that spreads slowly via thread-like, creeping rhizomes. For additional information about this exotic blue fern, please refer to the Araflora product information below.
Microsorum siamensis is a fern that thrives in low to medium light; too much light can cause the leaves to turn greener and diminish the iridescent sheen. For optimal growth, this fern loves high humidity (80% or higher) and warm temperatures. Watering Microsorum siamensis must be done carefully: the soil should not dry out completely, but waterlogging must be absolutely avoided to prevent root rot. The fern grows best in an airy substrate with good drainage, preferably with a small percentage of limestone fragments to enhance the leaf color. Fertilization is needed sparingly, and the plant spreads slowly via thread-like, creeping rhizomes. With this care, Microsorum siamensis remains a striking and robust fern that makes a magnificent addition to any terrarium or vivarium. Please note that some leaves may occasionally be lost during shipping and acclimatization, which is normal for this species.
