Microgramma nitida - Fern49

Microgramma nitida is a distinctive tropical fern with an elegant and playful growth habit. This Fern species occurs naturally in Central America, from Mexico to Costa Rica and Panama, where it grows in warm and humid forest environments. Unlike many other ferns, Microgramma nitida is not a traditional ground-cover plant, but a climbing or trailing fern that spreads by means of a creeping rhizome along tree trunks, branches, and rocks. Thanks to its slender, deep-green ...

leaves and compact growth, this fern is very suitable as a decorative houseplant or as a special fern for a Dendrobates terrarium.

Plant information: Microgramma nitida

Microgramma nitida is characterized by its long, slender, pointed leaves, which grow to an average length of about 20 centimeters. The leaves are deep green in color and can develop a glossy appearance when kept in high humidity. Not all leaves have exactly the same shape: some are slightly rounder, giving the plant a natural and playful look. The leaves grow from a creeping rhizome, which can easily be guided over a piece of wood, a branch, or other decorative material. On the underside of the leaves, round spore bodies (sori) are formed, through which the fern reproduces in nature. In addition to reproduction by spores, Microgramma nitida can also be propagated vegetatively by dividing the rhizome during the resting period. Plant care: Microgramma nitida

Microgramma nitida is a low-maintenance fern that requires little attention, provided it is placed in the right location. The plant prefers a semi-shaded position, and direct sunlight should always be avoided to prevent leaf damage. The potting soil should be kept slightly moist, allowing it to dry out a little between waterings, as constantly wet substrate may lead to root rot and infections. High humidity is essential for healthy growth and a beautiful glossy appearance of the leaves. Regular misting or placement in a humid environment is therefore recommended. The ideal temperature is around 25 °C, but the plant is flexible and tolerates temperatures between 5 °C and 35 °C. Fertilizing can be done approximately once every three weeks with a mild, diluted plant fertilizer. Finally, a light air circulation is important, as it helps prevent fungal and other diseases.
