Microgramma nitida

Microgramma nitida - Fern49

The fern Microgramma nitida from, among other places, Mexico is ideal to keep in a hanging pot. It grows extremely fast due to a creeping rhizome (root). The long, slender leaves have a deep green colour and are shiny in some cases, especially when kept in humid areas. At the bottom of these leaves Microgramma nitida forms round spores, used to reproduce.

Plant care: Microgramma nitida

Microgramma nitida doesn't need much attention. Keep it in a semi-light spot, avoiding direct sunlight at all times. Water as much as necessary to keep the substrate moist, but give it time to dry slightly in between watering sessions to prevent infections and rot. Microgramma nitida needs a high humidity. The temperature of its habitat should be around 25⁰C, but the fern also tolerates other temperatures. Prevent the temperature from dropping below 5⁰C and rising above 35⁰C. You can fertilize once every three weeks. There should be a slight but constant flow of air to prevent disease.
