Huperzia (syn: Lycopodium) tetrasticha

Huperzia 'Lycopodium' tetrasticha - Lyco15

Huperzia tetrasticha has a highly distinctive appearance. More than other species of Huperzia it is reminiscent of the first land-based plants to inhabit the planet. Leaves grow profusely on the plant’s stems, seeming to merge into a single visual whole. Huperzia tetrasticha owes its names to the density of its leaves which resemble the head of a drill. They have four distinct sides that meet in the middle.

Plant care: Huperzia (syn: Lycopodium) tetrasticha

Huperzia tetrasticha does not require a great deal of attention. It needs watering every three days. Mix a few pebbles in the substrate at the bottom of the pot so that excess water can drain away easily. Good air circulation is also important in order to prevent rotting or infection. The ambient or room temperature should be between 15⁰ C and 30⁰ C accompanied by a high level of humidity. The best growing medium for Huperzia tetrasticha is peat or sphagnum moss to which fertiliser can be added from time to time. The plant needs plenty of light but must not be exposed to direct sunlight. It should not be pruned.
