Huperzia pinifolia is a type of Huperzia that tends to stay small. It is is ideal for cultivation in a glasshouse or terrarium. It is also suitable as a hanging plant in a pot. However, as the plant grows it will become heavier so the pot needs securing carefully.
Huperzia pinifolia does not require serious maintenance. It needs a warm and humid environment at a temperature between 15⁰ C en 30⁰ C. The best substrate for Huperzia pinifolia consists of a mixture of peat and sphagnum moss. Occasional doses of fertiliser will promote the plant’s growth. Plants should be given water only when the substrate begins to dry out. Good drainage and circulation of fresh air are essential to prevent the plant rotting or becoming infected. Huperzia pinifolia needs plenty of light but should not be exposed to direct sunlight. It should not be pruned either.
