uperzia phlegmaria has tiny leaves growing from its long, decorative stems. These forked stems produced from one single point, trail downwards for up to 80 cm. Huperzia phlegmaria has its natural habitat in several parts of the world including Madagascar, Africa, Australia and the Phillipines. As an epiphyte that grows on trees, it is eminently suitable for cultivation as a hanging plant. The plant supplied by Araflora is a large specimen.

Huperzia “Lycopodium” phlegmaria requires tropical conditions that will enable it to grow to a length of 80 cm. Cultivating it as a hanging plant is a good option. Huperzia “Lycopodium”phlegmaria “L” grows slowly but growth will accelerate under ideal conditions. The Huperzia phlegmaria “Lycopodium” “L” supplied by Araflora will be young and vibrant; as a mature plant it will form a highly attractive green “curtain”.
Huperzia “Lycopodium” phlegmaria “L” does not require a great deal of attention and is by no means difficult to cultivate. Plants need to be watered every three days. It is best to include add a few pebbles at the bottom of the pot so water can drain away easily. This will also prevent rot or infection, as will good air circulation. Plants require a relatively high level of humidity and a temperature between 15⁰ C and 30⁰ C. The best substrate consists of peat or sphagnum moss. A moderate amount of fertiliser will promote the plant’s growth. Huperzia “Lycopodium” phlegmaria “L” needs plenty of light but should not be exposed to direct sunlight or fierce bright light. Pruning is not advisable.
