Huperzia 'Lycopodium' nummularifolia - Lyco02
Huperzia nummularifolia takes its name from its coin-shaped leaves (nummus = coin, folia = leaves). Huperzia nummularifolia consists of forked or braided stems with small, flat leaves. It is found in the wild throughout most of south-east Asia. As a true epiphyte it is highly suitable to be cultivated in a hanging pot. Huperzia nummulariifolia does not produce flowers but forms spores for the purposes of propagation between its leaves.

Huperzia nummularifolia is best cultivated in a glasshouse or large terrarium where it will grow to a height of 1 metre. It is best treated as a hanging plant positioned high enough so that its stems have room to grow down towards the ground. Huperzia nummularifolia tends to grow slowly but growth will be faster if the conditions are right.
Huperzia nummularifolia does not require a great deal of attention. Plants needs to be watered every three days but the growing medium must never become saturated. It is best to include add a few pebbles at the bottom of the pot so water can drain away easily. Huperzia nummularifolia needs plenty of light but must not be exposed to direct sunlight or fierce bright light. Plants require a high level of humidity at a temperature between 15⁰ C and 30⁰ C. The best substrate consists of peat or sphagnum moss. A moderate amount of fertiliser will promote the plant’s growth. Good air circulation will protect Huperzia nummularifolia from infection. Pruning is not advisable.
