Hoya retusa - Hoya120

Hoya retusa is also known as the grass Hoya because of its flat, narrow foliage. Its numerous slim leaves give it a distinctive appearance, quite unlike other hoyas. It is easy to care for and keep healthy and is virtually indestructible. It produces small, star-shaped white flowers between its leaves. Hoya retusa is a perfect choice as a trailing plant in a hanging basket.

Plant information: Hoya retusa

Hoya retusa looks quite unlike most other Hoya species. It has clusters of elongated, flat and extremely narrow leaves. The plant comes originally from India where it is by no means common. When it blooms, it produces delicate white flowers. The red star-shaped centre of each flower forms a striking contrast to the white background. Hoya retusa grows to a height of roughly 75 cm.

Plant care: Hoya retusa

Hoya retusa is known as extremely easy to care for. It is best cultivated in a hanging or raised pot as the best way of ensuring that its extensive stems are allowed to grow freely. It can be grown in the home in a range of temperatures, preferably close to a window in order to provide plenty of light and stimulate growth. Somewhat cooler nights will also encourage it to bloom. Hoya retusa is best grown in a mixture of peat and coconut fibre, both of which can be ordered in the section entitled “Plant accessories”. The potting mix must be allowed to dry out somewhat before the plant is given more water. Regular feeding is a good idea, using a balanced fertiliser. If the plant becomes too big, simply prune it with secateurs.
