Plant care Dorstenia foetida: Dorstenia foetida is a caudex-forming plant native to northeast Africa. The plant has green, non-meaty leaves and can produce sunflower-like flowers that spread seed. Dorstenia foetida is the most common species and easy to find, while other species such as Dorstenia gigas are rarer and more difficult to grow. This plant needs bright, indirect light but can tolerate partial shade. Dorstenia needs regular watering, but the soil should dry slightly between waterings. In winter, watering is minimal so that the plant does not remain in too humid an environment. Dorstenia foetida likes warm temperatures and dry, well-drained soil. A sunny spot is ideal for this plant, especially in winter. Make sure the pot drains well to prevent root rot. With proper care, Dorstenia foetida grows well and can even make small plants appear in other pots.
