Commiphora kataf can be found in the wild on the dry steppes of Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan, but can also be found on the other side of the Gulf of Aden in Yemen and Saudi Arabia. The plant is highly appreciated by many for its resin, which resembles myrrh. Commiphora kataf has a thick trunk in which the plant stores its water. Several twisting stems with fine green leaves emerge from this trunk. Because the leaves grow in triplets at the end of the petiole, they look a lot like a clover.
Commiphora kataf requires very little care. The plant is best kept in a warm, dry place in the living room, for example, a spot on the windowsill of a window facing south. What is common with this species is overwatering. Commiphora kataf is very sensitive to a constantly moist soil. It is therefore advisable to let it dry well before watering again. Another way to make sure that the plant does justice to you is to provide a well-permeable soil. You can do this by mixing the soil with sand or pumice stone. You can find this in our "Plant accessories" section. It is no problem to prune Commiphora if you want to keep it compact.
