Plant care: Cissus discolor

The Cissus discolor originates from the humid forests of Borneo and Java, where it grows as a vine up trees in the filtered rainforest light. In the wild, it uses its tendrils to cling to branches and shady rock faces. In cultivation, it is valued as a hanging plant, climber, or terrarium plant. It thrives in a warm, humid environment with ample light and can grow several meters tall indoors . Its decorative leaves also make it a beautiful companion plant in tropical arrangements with begonias, peperomias, or fittonias. For additional information about this Araflora product, please use the symbols below. The Cissus discolor requires some attention, but rewards it with spectacular growth and leaf color.
- Water: Keep the potting soil slightly moist, but not soaking wet. Allow the topsoil to dry slightly between waterings. Use lukewarm, low-lime water.
- Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as this can cause the leaves to bleach.
- Temperature : Ideally between 20–26°C. Protect from drafts and cold air.
- Humidity: High humidity (at least 60%) is important. Regular misting or placing in a terrarium will help. - Substrate: Use an airy mixture of peat, coconut fibre and perlite for a good balance between moisture and drainage. - Feeding: Give a light dose of houseplant food once every two weeks during the growing season (spring–autumn). - Pruning: Lightly prune long tendrils to promote compact growth and rejuvenate the plant.
-Care tip: Give the Cissus Discolor a climbing support or let its tendrils hang gracefully. A warm, constant environment without cold drafts is essential for maintaining its beautiful foliage. The Araflora symbols below will provide you with additional care information about this special plant.
