The Carludovica palmata is not a true palm, because the leaf is different, and because it does not form a woody trunk. The scientific name Carludovica palmata is a reference to King Charles IV. In America the name Jungle Drum is in circulation, because of the special inflorescence. With some imagination you can see drum sticks in there. In any case, it is a tropical atmosphere maker."
The Carludovica palmata is not hardy in northern countries. (That is only the case from zone 10 according to the USDA climate scale; the Netherlands is in zone 8).This makes it an indoor plant that needs quite a lot of water and a spot in partial shade.
