Butterwort x 'Weser' (Pinguicula x ‘Weser’) is a carnivorous plant from the butterwort plant family (Lentibulariaceae). It is a hybridized Pinguicula plant and therefore grows nowhere in the wild. Pinguicula x ‘Weser’ plants produce a rosette of egg shaped to oval, bright green leaves. On the upper side of the leaves, there are many glands producing a sticky substance where insects could be caught with. The insects are digested on top of the leaves, the nutrients available are used by the plant. With enough light, it is possible for the leaves to turn a faint pink. Once per year, mostly in spring, one to several flower stalks are produces carrying a single bright pink, spurred flower. Flowers are somewhat similar to the flower of a violet. Propagation is done by repotting the smaller rosettes forming near the base of the mature plant, or seeds.
Mexican butterwort x Weser (Pinguicula x ‘Weser’) is a relatively easy-to-care-for carnivorous plant. This hybrid species is perfect for growing in the living room, a cool greenhouse, or a special terrarium. For optimal growth conditions of Pinguicula x ‘Weser’, it is important to maintain temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius in the summer. In winter, the plant can be kept a bit cooler. Pinguicula x ‘Weser’ thrives best in bright, indirect light, as direct sunlight can damage the leaves. Place Pinguicula x ‘Weser’ in a sandy, mineral-rich soil mix that retains moisture well and contains minimal nutrients. Ensure that the plant never completely dries out; you can place the pot in a shallow dish of water to maintain humidity. Plant food is generally not needed, but you can place small insects on the leaves as extra nourishment.
