This colourful dwarf bromeliad is a great plant for anyone who loves bromeliads or is planning to start in bromeliads. It's even a success as a terrarium plant. The flower is a real eyecatcher because of the warm red and deep yellow colours that come closest to a mango.

Guzmania x 'Theresa' lives as an epiphyte in Central America and the Caribbean. This plant collects rainwater through the leaves, which form a tube. Other organisms such as poison frogs or insects often live in the tube. The rainwater is immediately absorbed by the leaves. The roots of Guzmania x 'Theresa' have only one function which is to attach themselves to branches or rocks. After the plant has blossomed, new shoots form, which bloom again the following year, while the mother plant dies.
It is important to water the plants in the tube. The tube can contain water at all times. It is important that the roots are in an airy soil of e.g. bark or tied to a branch with some spagnum moss. The latter is ideal for use in a terrarium. When the roots remain permanently wet, they rot. Guzmania x 'Theresa' prefers indirect sunlight but become more beautiful when they are in a lighter area because they can produce more pigment.
