Begonia subnummularifolia grows naturally creeping over the soil in the jungle of the tropical Indonesian island of Borneo. The species grows quickly and therefore covers an increasingly large area within a short time. The plant will also multiply quickly at home. The leaves of this Begonia are light green with red stems in the first stage, then slowly darken to a deep green to purple hue.
Begonia subnummularifolia is a fairly easy variety to care for. A condition is that the species is kept in a terrarium. The plant thrives at a high humidity of around 80% during the day. The humidity can be a bit higher at night. A high temperature of around 27 ° C ensures optimal growth. The species prefers a place in partial shade. Direct sunlight or too bright artificial light causes the leaves to dry out. The soil must remain moist, without the soil being constantly wet. This can lead to root rot, which is a common problem with Begonias. You can avoid this by creating a substrate of pumice, soil and peat. This material ensures good drainage. You can find this, in addition to other growing supplies, in our "Plant accessories" section. Begonia subnummularifolia can be pruned if the plant grows too large.
