Begonia sizemoreae is named after the woman who first described the species. The plant is found on a single mountain in the north of Vietnam. This begonia distinguishes itself by the relatively very long hairs on its leaves and petioles. They are white and therefore stand out strongly against the red stems of the plant. Begonia sizemoreae has flowers with four pink colored petals. In the center of these flowers is a yellow bundle of stamens, or a stigma in the same color. Together with the distinct asymmetrical leaves, this makes it a plant well worth adding to your collection.
You don't need to be an experienced begonia enthusiast to succeed in growing the Begonia sizemoreae. This plant likes a bright place, avoiding direct sunlight, temperatures between 5⁰C and 30⁰C, and humidity between 70% and 90%. Only water the plant when the top layer of the soil has dried out slightly. If you purchase the plant for your terrarium, ensure good air circulation to prevent diseases and infections. A suitable substrate is a mix containing peat. You will find various mixes and other growing supplies in our 'plant accessories' section. If you want to give Begonia sizemoreae a helping hand, you can fertilize the plant once every two weeks with normal plant food.
