Begonia hatacoa var. rubifolia is native to the mountainous regions of Northern India, Bangladesh, Southern China, Nepal, and Bhutan, at altitudes between 1200 and 2000 meters. This origin makes the species more tolerant of cooler temperatures than many other Asian begonias. This compact plant reaches a height of about 40 centimeters and forms a dense canopy of asymmetrical, deep green leaves with striking, raised veins and an intense burgundy underside. The leaves cluster together to form a sturdy, full cluster, giving the plant a luxurious appearance. The flowers appear on long, graceful stems, rising elegantly above the foliage. Each flower has four petals: two pure white and two with a beautiful white-pink striped pattern. This unique color combination creates a refined, almost orchid-like inflorescence with multiple flowers per stem. The fusion of deep-colored foliage and graceful blooms makes Begonia hatacoa var. rubifolia a real eye-catcher in any interior.
