Avonia papyracea ssp. namaensis - SuCa188a
Avonia papyracea ssp. namaensis - SuCa188a
The name 'papyracea' refers to the striking stipules of the succulent plant. These have a paper-like structure, which is what gives Avonia papyracea ssp. namaensis its striking appearance. These stipules protect the plant from the sun and make it appear to look like bird droppings due to the white color. This sounds unappealing, but up close you can see a beautiful plant. Avonia papyracea ssp. namaensis is an ideal plant for a warm windowsill.

Like many other succulents, Avonia papyracea ssp. namaensis needs a lot of sunlight. It is also best to keep the humidity low for optimal growth. The plant thrives in a warm spot with a south-facing window. During the summer you can regularly water the plant with rain or distilled water. In winter you should discontinue this to prevent rot. Avonia papyracea ssp. namaensis can also withstand temperatures just below zero during this period. It is important to use cactus soil in a clay pot with a layer of perlite for good drainage.
