Hydnophytum formicarum is found in nature in the tropical rain forests of Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines. It is an epiphyte (which means it grows in and on trees). Hydnophytum formicarum has a relatively large caudex (max. 30 cm), which is rough to the touch. The plant makes a large amount of white flowers, followed by red berries
Place Hydnophytum formicarum in warmth and high humidity, choose a spot with lots of (indirect) light and regularly provide Hydnophytum formicarum with nutrition. Also ensure sufficient air circulation when placing it in a terrarium. Though the exotic ant plant does well at temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius, the ideal temperatures are higher: between 20 and 30 degrees. Use a mix for orchids to pot the ant plant or tie it to a piece of bark.
