Dischidia pectenoides is an exotic climbing plant which offers ants a home. These Dischidia pectenoides are thus also known as 'Ant plants'. The inflated apple-green leaves 'In which the ants are housed' are a pretty sight to see. This intriguing plant also produces neat tiny flowers in spring. Looks very good in a hanging basket or a terrarium.

Dischidia pectenoides is found on the Philippines. Aside from ant plant, Dischidia is also called 'Urn plant', due to the shape of its flowers. The species is genetically closely related to the Hoya plants 'Wax plants'.
Don'T water this exotic plant Dischidia pectenoides too often, once every two or three days is plenty. Let the soil go 'Nearly' dry in between watering sessions. Use a properly porous medium, such as orchid mix. This plant thrives under high humidity. Bright, indirect, filtered light is optimal. When placed in a terrarium, the amount of light should be medium to intense. Under intense light, the the leaves will turn more red. When dry, the leaves will become more succulent 'Harder'.
