Dischidia major is found from Thailand to Northern Australia and on Indonesia and its surrounding islands. Nearly all types of Dischidia, including the D. major, are epiphytes 'Which live on trees' and often they grow in ant nests. Aside form its common succulent leaves, the plant also has tongue-shaped hollow leaves in which ants can live. The symbiosis with ants provides the plant with nutrition from organic material supplied by the ants, as well as protection against other insects. The plant'S urn-shaped flowers are the reason it is also known as an 'Urn plant'.
