Plant information: Antplant 'Dischidia major' 'L'

Dischidia major is found from Thailand to Northern Australia and on Indonesia and its surrounding islands. Nearly all types of Dischidia, including the D. major, are epiphytes 'Which live on trees' and often they grow in ant nests. Aside form its common succulent leaves, the plant also has tongue-shaped hollow leaves in which ants can live. The symbiosis with ants provides the plant with nutrition from organic material supplied by the ants, as well as protection against other insects. The plant'S urn-shaped flowers are the reason it is also known as an 'Urn plant'.

Dischidia major shouldn'T receive too much water, once every two or three days is plenty. Let the soil go 'Nearly' dry in between watering sessions. Ensure a its soil is a properly porous medium, such as orchid mix. This plant thrives under high humidity. Bright, indirect, filtered light is optimal. When placed in a terrarium, the amount of light should be medium to intense. Under intense light, the the leaves will turn more red. When dry, the leaves will become more succulent 'Harder'.
