Anthurium gracile occurs in the wild in Central America and South American countries such as Panama, Colombia, Venezuela and Surinam. Its fairly narrow leaves are between 10 and 30 centimetres long and 5 to 9 centimetres wide. The plant itself is 60 to 90 cm tall. “Gracile” means graceful. Like Anthurium bakeri this plant pollinates itself which means that it automatically produces red berries once the spadix has finished flowering.
Position Anthurium gracile in bright light but not in full sun. Keep the potting mix slightly moist. Water regularly in small quantities to make sure the potting mix stays moist but not soaking wet. Anthurium gracile is an exotic plant that like most Anthuriums enjoys a fair level of humidity. It therefore needs misting once a week. It enjoys temperatures between 10 and 30 degrees. If so desired, feed it during the growing season with a small quantity of plant fertiliser. For the potting mix, use 50% ordinary potting compost mixed with 50% orchid mix or perlite.
