Sundew 'Drosera sessilifolia'

Drosera sessilifolia is a South American sundew that is endemic to regions like Brazil, Guyana and Venezuela. The sundew is very similar to Drosera burmannii and is genetically related to the kind that is found only in Asia and Australia. This taxonomic connection gives Drosera sessilifolia the same triangular, rounded leaves that grow in a small compact rosette shape. Here one can spot the so-called snap-tentacles, with which Drosera sessilifolia can catapult a prey into its trapping leaf. The leaves can obtain a more red colour depending the stage of maturity it has reached

Drosera sessilifolia is best cultivated in a mixture of peat, sand and perlite. This carnivorous plant likes a warm and humid climate and is therefore most suitable for a sunny windowsill, or in a terrarium with artificial lighting.
