Product info

The Drosera paradoxa is one of the most conspicuous, tropical species of the sun dew. Its natural habitat is Australia, where it grows in warm, wet areas poor in nutrients. The Drosera paradoxa is a carnivorous plant that catches insects with the help of sticky snares in order to get its necessary nutrients. [e.g. nitrogen]. These snares are red in colour and covered with glistening drops of mucilage. This exotic plant attracts flies and other insects by its seductive scent. When the insects land on the sticky drops they have no chance of escape, whereupon the plant digests them. Araflora sells besides these and similar sundew species also many other carnivorous plants.

Plant care

The tropical sundew, Drosera paradoxa, likes being in a warm, light spot. It thrives at a temperature of 14° Celsius [ 57.2° F] or more, even up to 40° Celsius [104° F]. This Drosera paradoxa species prefers the full sun or being close to an artificial light source. Humidity is also of utmost importance to the Drosera paradoxa : a high humidity or sufficient water in a saucer under the plant pot are a must. Tap water is good enough but even better is rain water or pre-boiled water. The soil of this carnivorous plant should contain only few nutrients and be capable of retaining moisture. Araflora uses a mix of half sand, half peat for this plant. This mix yields an excellent growth.
