Product infoSarracenia x Eva is a cultivar from the North-American carnivorous pitcher plants from the Sarracenia genus. In nature, Sarracenia x Eva can grow up to six to eight leaves, pitchers, per season that can reach a height of 28cm. The pitchers are stunningly coloured, they are green with red veins and a whitish-pink glow at their hoods and ends of the pitchers. The pitchers contain glands that produce sugars which attract insects that think it is nectar. The inside of the pitchers are covered with small bristly hairs and a waxy layer, which prevents the insects from escaping once they are inside. The flowers of the Sarracenia x Eva are red. Araflora thinks it is a big advantage that Sarracenia plants are all hardy plants to a more or lesser extent.
Plant careWhile Sarracenia x Eva is a hardy plant, it can also be kept nearby a pond or in a vegetable garden. It can sustain severe frost as long as it is covered with hay or when it is snowing, put a little extra snow on the plants. Sarracenia x Eva can also handle heat. For Sarracenia species it is important that the plants receive enough sun light and they might never dry out. It is therefore recommended to place Sarracenia x Eva on a bed of water. Sarracenia x Eva requires a nutrient poor soil, Araflora therefore uses a mix of peat, sand and perlite. Leaves that have turned brown might be cut off since they serve no function any longer. While tap water mostly has a high calcium content which Sarracenia species don’t like it is advised to use rainwater instead.
