Product info

It's not surprising that Utricularia quelchii ‘Auyan’ is often mistaken as an orchid. The flower is just as striking as that of the popular orchids and also has the spoon shaped leaves which remind us of an orchid. Utricularia quelchii ‘Auyan’ has a remarkable attribute which orchids don't have though. It catches its prey with bladders which are found near or underneath the ground, hence the name 'bladderwort'. This carnivore grows in the wild in trees on the table mountain Auyan-tepui.

Plant care

Utricularia quelchii ‘Auyan’ is quite easy to take care of in a terrarium or on the windowsill. You can also keep it in a hanging basket or attached to a piece of bark. The temperature should be around 25⁰C and the humidity 80%. Utricularia quelchii ‘Auyan’ likes a light spot, but should be kept out of direct sunlight. The substrate is ideally a mixture of peat moss and perlite or pumice, because this retains moisture while draining any excess water. You can find this and other components in our ‘Plant Accessories’ section. Give it plenty of mineral poor water to prevent the substrate from drying out.
