Product info

Goodyera malipoensis is a unique, terrestrial orchid with extraordinary leaves. This species is a member of the informal group called 'jewel orchids'. Mature individual plants form up to four sharp-lanceolate leaves. The outer edge of the leaf is dark green where the central line is lighter. The whole leaf is decorated with a diverse display of white lines and patterns, which contrast strongly with the rest of the leaf. The underside of the leaves shows white spots. At the end of spring, an uprising, slender orange to yellow raceme is produced. From this raceme, several white, fuzzy flowers grow. This plant is propagated by division; mature plants could be easily separated by the rhizome and grown individually.

Plant care

Goodyera malipoensis grows naturally on shady forest floors in temperate forests of China. Keep this species in a temperature range between 12 and 25 degrees year-round. This species demands high humidity conditions of at least 80%. Therefore, it is recommended to grow this species in a cool greenhouse or terrarium. Place this plant in humus-rich soil. Adding sphagnum moss for the major part in your mixture is advised. Make sure that the soil never dries out: evenly moist soil conditions are essential for growing this species. It is a low-light species that accepts a fair amount of shade. Fertilize this plant once a month with special orchid fertilizer, half the recommended dosage.
