Product info

Begonia x ‘Silver Maples’ is a relatively easy plant to grow. This species originates from the tropical forests of Brazil. The leaves of this plant are broad, hand-shaped, and end in pointy tips. Like the name suggests, the leaves look a bit similar to the leaves of a maple tree. The veins of the leaves are mint- to bright green, where the rest of the leaves are silver or white. Petioles are hairless just like the leaves. Overall, the plant could show some red pigmentation when it receives enough light. Begonia x ‘Silver Maples’ could produce small but bright pink flowers in summer. Flowers are either male or female. Most commonly, propagation is done by taking leaf or stem cuttings. When both male and female flowers are available, propagation by seed could also be done.

Plant care

Begonia x ‘Silver Maples’ grows most optimally in a place away from direct sunlight. Bright indirect light brings out the best coloration. Locations with more shade is also tolerated by this species. Try to avoid direct sunlight as it could burn the leaves. Make sure the temperature does not drop below 14 degrees Celsius. Higher temperatures are generally endured. The ideal humidity is high, but at least above 50%. Try to avoid placing the plant above any form of indoor heating as it will dry out too much. Plant this species in a humus rich, water retaining and airy soil. Do not let the soil go completely dry, watering often is key but prevent the soil from becoming soggy. Fertilize this species with standardized nutrients for green plants in the growing season, according to the recommended dosage.
