Tropical pitcher plant 'Nepenthes x miranda'

CarniNep81
Specifications
Nepenthes x miranda

This hybrid has been produced from two naturally occurring varieties, Nepenthes maxima and Nepenthes northiana although its precise origins are unclear. The combination of a highland and a lowland parent species means that this hybrid is relatively easy to cultivate. Its features are red speckled pitchers with a reddish brown lip.

Product info

Nepenthes x Miranda may grow to a height of several metres. It can be grown in a hanging basket or a normal pot, but in either case the pitchers must have sufficient space. In such conditions, the plant will grow at a normal rate. When it blooms, Nepenthes x miranda will produce a cluster of yellowish brown flowers.

Plant care

Nepenthes x miranda requires plenty of sunlight, but not full sun or it will become dehydrated. The best temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, certainly no lower than 10 degrees Celsius or higher than 30 degrees. As a hybrid based on two highland species, Nepenthes x Miranda can cope with a lower temperature. It needs plenty of rainwater or distilled water and a well-drained pot. It also needs spraying regularly with water so the pitchers retain water. Nepenthes x Miranda needs a relatively high level of humidity, thrives in neutral to slightly acidic peat and requires additional feeding. It can be pruned if it becomes too large.
