Product info

The Pinguicula grandiflora, found in the northern hemisphere, is a type of Butterworth, which is capable of tolerating frost. This carnivorous type of plant can grow to some 5 to 7 centimetres in diameter. The Pinguicula grandiflora has green leaves which lie flat in the shape of a rosette on the soil. Every leaf secretes a layer of mucilage on which the insects stay stuck. Whereupon the plant will digest these insects, so it will get the nutrients it needs despite the poor soil it grows on. The inflorescence of this Butterworth is very beautiful: it produces one or more large, purple flower. The size of the flower is much larger than usual in the Butterworth species; thus the name ‘grandiflora’. Araflora supplies Butterworth plants, which will always flower in the near future. Plant care

The Pinguicula grandiflora prefers a light spot in your garden or home. This Butterworth species is hardy and can therefore stay in your garden the whole year round. Exposure to extreme frost is no problem as long as the soil around the winter rosette does not dry out. The Pinguicula grandiflora likes a moist environment and always needs to be stood in a saucer filled with water under its container. The best water for this Butterworth species is rain- or boiled water, because they contain less nutrients. In winter this plant has a period of rest during which it produces a small nodule. Keep the soil moist in that period. The soil should be poor in nutrients. Araflora cultivates this plant in a mix of peat and perlite. The plantcare symbols below will give you an indication about the care of this carnivorous plant.
