Product info
P. melanochrysum is part of the Philodendron-family which counts hundreds of different variations. The plant originates from the tropical areas of Central- and South America. P. melanochrysum is a botanical variation of the Philodendron. The plant has big, heart shaped leaves with clear, yellow vein traces. Young leaves tend to be a bit lighter and can remind of the Philodendron micans. As the leaves grow older, they will grow significantly bigger and become a lot darker. In nature the melanochrysum loves to climb on rocks and trees and can expand its height up to a few meters. Araflora sells smaller versions of the plant differing from 10 cm up to 80 cm. To support your climbing plant, use a planting stick or a wall on which it can grow.
Plant care
The Philodendron melanochrysum is a very easy indoor plant that thrives in a sun filled room. It’s better not to put the P. melanochrysum in direct sunlight because it may cause the leaves to get a slightly bleached look. The best method to check if the plant needs water is to check if the first few centimeters of the soil feel dry. This will probably amount in the melanochrysum needing water around once a week. In colder months once every two weeks will be enough. It wouldn’t hurt to sprinkle some water on its leaves a few times a week to stay on top of the humidity your Philodendron needs.
