Hoya 'Sunrise'

Hoya sunrise is an epiphytic cultivar that was bred in 1992, it’s ancestors are Hoya obscura and Hoya lacunose spp. pallidiflora. Hoya plants are also known as the porcelain flowers and as wax plants. Hoya sunrise will produce beautiful light pink coloured and fragrant flowers, but only if it is exposed to sufficient bright indirect light. Hoya sunrise is a real climber, so it will definitely like some support during its growth. The waxy leaves of Hoya sunrise have an impressive colouration with clearly visible veins, but the leaves are rather sensitive to light stress. If they receive enough sunlight the leaves can even become purple to reddish which will emphasizes the veins even more. According to Araflora Hoya sunrise can best placed at a south-facing window, however a window facing the east or west will also be fine.

Araflora provides Hoya sunrise with a really well-draining soil that also provides enough aeration. Water the plant when the soil is almost dry or when the leaves start drooping a bit. Due to the well-draining soil you can water Hoya sunrise rather thoroughly, but make sure it won’t sit on a bed of water, it will absolutely not like this and it can cause root rot. Hoya plants are rather tolerant to drought, so if you forget to water it once it won’t be a big issue. Araflora advises to give Hoya sunrise some regular well-balanced water soluble houseplant nutrition diluted to half its strength every two to four weeks during the growing season. Hoya sunrise likes the humidity level to be between 40% to 60%. Hoya sunrise thrives with bright but indirect light, the leaves will get harmed and discoloured if they are exposed to bright direct sunlight too long. Hoya sunrise thrives with temperatures between 17°C to 25°C. Prevent dropping the temperature below 10°C, since this might cause chill damage.
