Product info

Philodendron pedatum is native to the tropics of countries like French Guiana, Ecuador, Colombia and several others. Already back in 1841 Philodendron pedatum was first described. Philodendron pedatum can develop an impressive foliage overtime, its leaves will keep on growing in size while the plant matures. Due to the shape of its lobbed leaves Philodendron pedatum is also known as the Oak Leaf Philodendron. The lobes of Philodendron pedatum will become narrower overtime. A fun fact is that it is rather unlikely that Philodendron pedatum will become fully mature, even in nature Philodendron pedatum plants have a hard time to ever become fully mature. While Philodendron pedatum is real climber Araflora advises to give it some support during its growth to cling on to, when it is kept as a climbing plant it will be able to show its inherent beauty the most. While Philodendron pedatum is toxic when ingested, Araflora advises to keep it a safe spot unreachable for little children and pets.

Plant care

Araflora provides Philodendron pedatum with a well-draining soil mixture, that should be kept moist but never get drenched since this might cause root rot. Watering is best done when the top soil layer, the first few cm, is dry to touch. Philodendron pedatum prefers rainwater over tapwater. Araflora advises to fertilize Philodendron pedatum once a month during the growing season with some regular nitrogen based houseplant fertilizer, stop the fertilization during the fall and wintertime. Make sure that the soil is moist before you give some fertilization to the plant. Philodendron pedatum thrives with a humidity level around 60%, but they are rather tolerant to different humidity levels. In order to keep the humidity level at a favourable level, Araflora advises to mist the plant on a regular basis, also the pot could be placed on a pebble tray with a bit of water. Philodendron pedatum thrives with temperatures between 16°C to 24°C, make sure to keep the temperature above 10°C during the colder months.
