Product info

Dischidia sp. Geri is an epiphyte and is native to the Philippines. Dischidia sp. Geri was named by Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter he described it in a book called ‘Fragmenta Florae Philippinae’ that was published in 1904. Dischidia sp. Geri is part of the Dischidia genus. Plants from the Dischidia genus mostly tend to grow in ant nest that grow that inhabit arboreal areas. Some ant species even have developed a symbiotic relationship with plants of the Dischidia genus. Dischidia plants for example provide housing or storage to the ants and the plants have changed the shape of their leaves for this matter. Dischidia sp. Geri has leaves that look a lot like coins. New leaves first appear in a reddish-orange shade and mature into a soft green. In the warmer months, tiny creamy white lantern-shape flowers are visible in umbels of 3 to 10 blooms. Araflora even experienced that it can do well outside during the summer months on your patio to perk it up a little bit.

Plant care

Dischidia sp. Geri will do best and lots of indirect light. Too much direct bright (sun)light can be harmful, it could cause sunburn. Though the plant thrives on high humidity, it can withstand low temperatures (but not freezing) and short periods of over-watering or drought. Araflora supplies Dischidia sp. Geri with a well-draining soil. Drenching the soil should be avoided since this could cause root rot. So, water Dischidia sp. Geri regularly with small amounts and you can fertilize lightly during the warm, growing months. Dischidia sp. Geri is a fast grower so you might think it is getting to big, but no worries because you can easily prune it without harmful consequences for the plant.
