Product info

This spectacular Hoya was named after Ann Wayman, a very experienced Hoya collector from the United States. This species is endemic to the island of Borneo (Kalimantan) and grows exclusively as an epiphyte in lowland rainforest trees. It was described for the first time in 1995 by Dale Kloppenburg. The leaves are ovate and have somewhat ruffled edges that turn a deep red when exposed to bright light. With adequate care this species can flower with extremely long peduncles (>20cm) full of bright yellow, red and white flowers. Even without flowers this species is a true sight to behold.

Plant care

As this tropical Hoya grows primarily in as an epiphyte in the lowland forest of Borneo, it can be tricky (but not impossible) to grow in regular household conditions. It will thrive in warm (25C-35C) and humid (60%+ RH) conditions. The plants requires very light substrate (lots of bark and perlite, very little peat) and you should only water it when the substrate is dry. The plant can take a lot of light, and might best be grown under growlights in most European countries. It can also be grown under natural light, but it might be harder to get the plant to develop red leaves and get it to flower.
