Product infoPhilodendron brandtianum ‘starter’ is a climbing species that is native to countries like Peru, Brazil, Bolivia and Ecuador. Philodendron brandtianum ‘starter’ is also nicked named as the silver leaf Philodendron due to its beautiful colouration. Philodendron brandtianum ‘starter’ can be kept as climber with giving it some support, but it can also be kept equally easily as a hanging plant in a basket. A nice feature of Philodendrons is that they can act as air purifiers. Araflora does advise to keep Philodendron brandtianum ‘starter’ at a place out of harm’s way because Philodendrons are toxic when ingested.
Plant carePhilodendron brandtianum ‘starter’ thrives with bright but indirect sunlight. Its is best placed at a east- north-facing window. Philodendron brandtianum ‘starter’ tolerates low and high light levels pretty well as long as it is indirect light, but too much direct light can scorch the leaves. The optimum day temperature for Philodendron brandtianum ‘starter’ is from 20°C to 25°C, during the night time it is advised to keep the temperature above 12°C. However, the plant tolerates a rather broad range of temperatures from 10°C to 35°C. Araflora provides Philodendron brandtianum ‘starter’ with a well-draining and nutrient rich soil. The soil should be kept moist but not drenched otherwise root rot can occur. Watering can be done when the topsoil, when you put half a finger in the soil, is dry to touch. During the warmer months this mostly means watering can be done around three times a week and during the colder months it will be once a week. A humidity level between 50%-60% is sufficient, a good humidity level will stimulate growth and increase the foliage of the plant. During spring and summer Araflora advises to fertilize Philodendron brandtianum ‘starter’ with a water soluble regular houseplant fertilizer diluted to half its strength, once every month. If needed, mostly every two to three years, Araflora advises to repot the plant during the growing season.
