Tropical pitcher plant 'Nepenthes adnata'

CarniNep01
Specifications
Nepenthes adnata
This tropical pitcher plant catches its prey in attractive speckled pitchers with reddish-purple blotches. The peristome or lip is usually dark purple and the inner pitcher surface is white to light green. Nepenthes adnata is found only in two locations on the Indonesian island of Sumatra and is regarded by some collectors as severely threatened. It is a diminutive plant - smaller than other species of Nepenthes and requires a high level of humidity and a high temperature. It is therefore ideal for a terrarium.

Plant care

Nepenthes adnata is a lowland or intermediate species. It is best cultivated at temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, certainly no lower than 10 degrees Celsius or higher than 30 degrees. It requires a high level of humidity in order to form attractive pitchers. Nepenthes adnata should be grown in a well-drained pot and watered with rain water or distilled water. It needs to be sprayed regularly so that water remains in its pitchers. For the best results, it needs plenty of light but it should not be exposed to direct sunlight. The ideal growing medium is neutral to slightly acidic peat. If the plant becomes too big, it can be pruned.
