Product info
Amorphophallus titanium or Titan Arum, has the biggest unsegmented inflorescence in the world. It is a “carrion plant” that stinks like a rotting corpse. Pollination takes place by flies and beetles attracted by the foul odour in the hope of finding food. The gigantic flower appears first before the leaf. The smell of the flowers during the first few days is extremely unpleasant.
Plant care
Plant the tuber in spring in well-drained, nutritious soil. Mix in a quantity of sand or seramis to produce better drainage. Use a large pot because the flower is gigantic, followed by an enormous leaf. Water sparingly to begin with, increasing the amount as the plant starts to grow. Fertilise it during the growing season. This species can best be grown in a warm conservatory or greenhouse. In autumn, lift the tuber out of the ground and store it in a dark, warm and dry place.
