Phalaenopsis venosa grows at a moderate height on the remote tropical island of Sulawesi. This epiphyte does not grow on the ground, but on trees and shrubs. The orchid can grow up to 20 cm in size and often flowers with several flowers at a time. The flowers are spotted yellow-green and red-orange. The lip of the orchid is white and has the shape of an oil lamp. Phalaenopsis venosa has broad green leaves that can grow to about 15 cm.
Plant care
Phalaenopsis venosa prefers a warm environment of around 26⁰C. Ensure that the temperature does not fall below 15⁰C or rise above 30⁰C. A high humidity of around 80% is important. The best place for the orchid is in a light place, where direct sunlight is avoided. Water Phalaenopsis venosa again when the substrate of the plant has dried slightly. Preferably use rain or distilled water to prevent mineral buildup in the rhizome. This will amount to watering three to five times a week. Sufficient air circulation is important to keep diseases and infections out. You can use orchid mix as substrate. You can also mount the Phalaenopsis venosa on a piece of bark. You can find this and other growing equipment in our "plant accessories" section. Make sure that moisture can drain well from this. Old flowers can be cut away.
