Amorphophallus thaiensis “S”

Ariods178
Specifications
Amorphophallus thaiensis “S”
As the Latin name suggests, this plant from the Arum family is native to Thailand. Amorphophallus thaiensis grows high up in the mountains. This makes this relatively small voodoo lily fairly resistant to lower temperatures. The flower of Amorphophallus thaiensis has a soft vanilla-like color. This appears after the striking large single leaf has withered.

Product info

Amorphophallus thaiensis comes from the mountainous north of Thailand. The single leaf of the plant grows to an average of 50 cm. The flower does not reach half a meter, but has a very impressive size in proportion. The striking-looking flowering flask is enclosed by a pale yellow bract. The plant has a flowering and resting phase, which alternate approximately every six months. Amorphophallus thaiensis first makes a leaf to strengthen its underground tuber. When it has collected enough nutrients, the flower will appear. After flowering, many red-orange berries develop on a sturdy stem

Plant care

Amorphophallus thaiensis has no need for a tropical temperatures due to its place of growth. This can be at 15°C during the rest period and around 22°C during flowering. The humidity can best be around 65% to make the plant stand out well. Choose a place in the shade. Water should be given again when the top layer of the earth in the pot has dried slightly. Ensure good drainage at all times, for example by using bark as a base layer. The tubers of Amorphophallus thaiensis can rot in the event that the earth stays wet for too long. The plant needs very little water during the rest period, but still enough so that the soil does not dry out completely. You can give the voodoo lily normal plant food if you find it necessary.
