Product infoBegonia furfuracea is threatened in its natural habitat in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea by human influence, such as deforestation. The species needs these forests for shade and trees as support, since Begonia furfuracea often grows on other plants. The leaves of the species are about 20 cm long and have a serrated edge. The stem has short hairs that feel stiff. Together with the white flowers with yellow stamens, this makes for a nice looking species.
Plant careBegonia furfuracea needs a spot in partial shade. Place the plant in a more shady place when the leaves appear to dry out. Conversely, if these grow too slowly or become very dark green, it is better to place the plant in a lighter spot. The plant comes into its own in a place with a relatively high humidity of around 80% and a temperature of 24°C. The temperature should not fall below 12°C. Do not water Begonia furfuracea until the upper layer of the soil has dried out slightly. This because the plant is susceptible to root rot if the soil remains moist for too long. As an extra measure to prevent this, it is advisable to use a mix of pumice and tree bark as a base layer in the pot. You can find this, among other necessities for your plants, in our "Plant accessories" section. If you keep the Begonia furfuracea in a terrarium you must ensure good air circulation. You can feed the plant once every two weeks to support growth.
