Nepenthes albomarginata is a tropical pitcher plant endemic to the island of Borneo where numerous other Nepenthes species are found. The name of the plant (albo = white, marginata = edge) refers to the ring of white hairs at the top of its attractive purple pitchers, hence white-collared pitcher plant. Unlike most pitcher plants, which are unselective about their prey, Nepenthes albomarginata almost exclusively traps termites which find its edible hairs extremely palatable. As far as we know, Nepenthes albomarginata is the only species of pitcher plant that catches its prey by allowing itself to be consumed.
