Product info
This white form is rare and is also considered a variety of L. skinneri var. alba. This orchid flowers in winter and early spring with up to 15 cm large, almost white, waxy and strongly fragrant flowers. Often there are several flowers in bloom at the same time on the erect inflorescence.
Plant care
Place Lycaste skinneri in a light spot out of full sun. In summer it thrives on warmth; in winter keep between 10°C & 20°C. This species likes a humidity of 70% or higher, if it is too dry it will have growth problems and the flowers will not develop properly. Like many indoor and greenhouse orchids, this species is best potted in pine bark (bark). During the growth period, the plant needs a lot of water, but should never be allowed to get waterlogged. To guarantee high humidity, place the plant on an island, meaning that the pot is on an elevation with water all around. During the summer spray the plant daily. Be sparing with fertilizer: 1 x every three weeks a ¼ part of the recommended dosage stated on the package. Use special orchid food. During the rest period from December to March limit watering to 1 x every fortnight, not alowing the substrate to dry out completely.Keep away from direct heat.
