Product info
Unlike most other members of the species which produce a single inflorescence, Amorphophallus polyanthus often produces several at the same time. They are smaller than those of other species and once they have finished blooming, leaves appears. The flowers often give off a foul-smelling odour in the first few days. Flies and beetles are attracted by the smell, imagining it signifies food. They manage to pollinate the plant but receive nothing in return.
Plant care
In spring, plant the tuber in nutritious, well-drained soil. Mix a quantity of builder’s sand or seramis with the potting mix to ensure better drainage. To begin with, water sparingly but once the plant starts growing, give it more water. During the growing season, feed regularly with fertiliser. This species is best grown in a conservatory or greenhouse. In summer, it can be left outside in a position that is warm but not too sunny. In autumn, take the tuner out of the ground and store it in a dark, warm and dry place.
